Faith 101 Part 6 – How We Grow and Sustain Our Faith

Faith 101 – Part 6
How We Grow and Sustain Our Faith

Faith 101

“Where lives change and where life can begin again”

“Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God”. Sounds easy huh?

IT’S NOT!!

Because of the stresses of life and the pressures of living and striving to be

successful at what we do, keeping the Word of God first place in your life is

extremely challenging. However, one thing we know, whatever is important to us

we will make it a high priority and no matter what, we will get it done. That’s how

we must be with God.

Matthew 6:33 …But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all

these things shall be added to you.

Did you notice that the first word in that sentence was, but? Before this scripture

Jesus is explaining why we shouldn’t worry about the simple things of life. Our

basic necessities are taken care of, always. Yet we work 2 or 3 jobs or work

excessive overtime to make ends meet. We worry about life instead of living life to

its fullest. How do I do that Pastor Lynette? By making God your first priority. We

must love God with all of our heart, mind, soul and strength.

What does His righteousness look like? It looks like Jesus! By doing the Word of

God and staying so close to the Word that we learn and grow and start to sound,

look and act just like Jesus.

Our great example was Jesus. The years of consecration from birth to 30 years of

age had to be intense and consistent for such power and confidence to flow from

Him. We cannot forget that Jesus was a man just like we are, and he had to live

this life just like us, by faith.

Remember what the Word said when Jesus was born and what it said about Him.

Let’s go back a little

Luke 2:39-4039 So when they had performed all things according to the law of

the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth. 40 And the Child

grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was

upon Him.

You may say, “But that was Jesus!”. Each one of us has the opportunity to grow

strong in spirit and be filled with the wisdom of God and God’s grace is always

upon us.

Remember when Jesus was 12 years old at the temple.

Luke 2:42-4742 And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem

according to the custom of the feast. 43 When they had finished the days, as they

returned, the Boy Jesus lingered behind in Jerusalem. And [l]Joseph and His

mother did not know it; 44 but supposing Him to have been in the company, they

went a day’s journey, and sought Him among their relatives and acquaintances.

45 So when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him. 46

Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the

midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. 47 And

all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers.

Really???, at 12 years old? He grew strong in spirit, being filled with wisdom

because of the study of the scriptures and prayer and communication with the

Father. It is imperative that we stay close to the Father and have constant

dialogue and connection with Him. He becomes more real than the things we see

in the natural. That! was the secret success of Jesus.

You find that is the case with each person of faith in the bible. In order to grow

and sustain your faith, you must love God with all of your heart, soul, mind, and

strength. You must love Him more than anything or anyone. He is your source of

everything. Your source of joy, love, peace, food, clothing, finances, absolutely

everything. And when we learn to make Him first in our lives, your peace will

surpass all understanding in the eyes of others; but you will know who the peace

giver.

Your faith will be unbreakable, unmovable and you will stand through the test of

time!
