The Importance of Covenant Part 2 – Covenant between Man and the Church

The Importance of Covenant Part 2
Covenant between Man and the Church

Covenant

“Where lives change and where life can begin again”

As we talked about last week, a covenant is a binding agreement. Some

covenants are legal and binding, but most of all they should be a binding

or a joining of the heart. When it comes to a covenant with God, it is

with a heart of love and faith that we make a covenant with Him and He

makes a covenant with us. It has nothing to do with papers and lawyers

and law, but a decision of the heart to follow Christ all the days of our

lives. To keep the covenant in this way of love, you must stay close to the

Word and in close communication (prayer) with the Father. Learning to

hear the voice of God and trusting the voice in your spirit that when it

is good, it is God. When it is bad, it is not! The closer we get and the

longer we stay in covenant, the easier it gets, and the more joy we will

find in following the Savior.

Ephesians 4:11-16

11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some

evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of

the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the “Body” of

Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge

of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of

the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed

to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery

of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking

the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—

Christ— 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by

what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which

every part does its share, causes growth of the “Body” for the edifying

of itself in love.

The church is the “Body” of Christ. There is the Body of Christ as a

whole that consist of all Christians everywhere. And there are small

Bodies of Christ that support communities and cities and countries all

over the world. We are all doing our part of the Kingdom’s work as the

“Body” of Christ in our individual responsibilities where God has sent

us.

The best, and most eternally beneficial work that you can do is in your

local church. Making a covenant to do the work of the Kingdom for the

purpose of spreading the gospel to all areas of your community, city or

state is a very important part of what we were called to do. The church

has made a covenant to teach and grow the “Body” to be equipped to

go to their families, co-workers, communities, and friends with the

gospel of Jesus Christ. To educate them in who they are in Christ and

the true authority that they walk in and possess.

12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the

edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the

faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the

measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;

The church makes a covenant with the “Body” to teach them to walk in

their true identity in Christ, that they are more than conquerors, and

can do all things through Christ which strengthens them. Satan has

made an all-out attempt to dismember the “Body” and call the church

irrelevant and outdated, but it is a necessary part of the growth and

equipping of the children of God. It is a part of God’s plan. This is why

Satan is doing all he can to destroy the credibility of the “Church”.

16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every

joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part

does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in

love.

Isn’t that covenant? The whole “Body”, is joined and knit together by what

every joint supplies…

A covenant causes two, to become one, united in one purpose and in

one goal. Unified in the faith and doing more for the cause of Christ.

It excites me every time I think about the covenant that we have

together as the “Church”. We are called to be accountable to one

another and to walk in unity to accomplish a common cause.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (NIV)

9 Two are better than one,

because they have a good return for their labor:

10 If either of them falls down,

one can help the other up.

But pity anyone who falls

and has no one to help them up.

11 Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.

But how can one keep warm alone?

12 Though one may be overpowered,

two can defend themselves.

A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Together we can accomplish more. Together we can accomplish

ANYTHING! Let’s go take the world for Jesus!
