Prayer Part 1
Pure Communication

Prayer

“Where lives change and where life can begin again”

Praying – By Mary Oliver

“It doesn’t have to be the blue iris, it could be

weeds in a vacant lot or a few small stones; just

pay attention, then patch a few words together, and don’t try

to make them elaborate, this isn’t a contest but the doorway

into thanks, a silence in which another voice may speak.”

So often we make it difficult to talk to God. It is just as simple as

saying, “Hey God, sending my love and I’m paying attention for your

voice today. I’m listening, and I just wanted you to know I love you.” I

think as a parent, those are the words we all want to hear. Not really

looking for anything because I know you have everything I need. It is all

mine anyway, so I just wanted to say, “I love you.”

Pure communication is open, honest, loving, thoughtful, and full of

truth. God wants honesty and openness. We need to always keep it real

with God, and then He can keep it real with us. If you are angry, be

angry, if you are sad, be sad, and express that to God. If a moment in

your life you feel angry and disappointed with God, He can handle that.

What He can’t handle is pretense and the lack of truth. Keep it real, He

knows anyway!

Matthew 5:8 (NKJV)

8 Blessed are the pure in heart,

For they shall see God.

God is looking for the pure in heart in all His people. It does not

require perfection to be pure in heart. It requires a desire and longing

to be close to God. To see Him and love Him more than all other things.

The scripture says, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see

God.” It is that pure faith that brings you into the presence of God. It is

a pull for heaven that must respond to the purity of one’s heart.

Pure – clean, clear, fresh, sparkling, unpolluted, uncontaminated,

untainted.

To get a clean, clear, and fresh heart it takes surrounding yourself with

clean, clear, and fresh things. Surround yourself with books, CDs,

ministry, and people that have the heart of God. It is so easy to be

surrounded by unclean, unclear, and trashy things because it is all a

part of the world we live in. It takes determination, persistence, and a

clear decision to keep our lives pure and untainted from “the trash” and

the things that pull us away from God. He must be that important to

our lives. For your success, He must be that important to you.

Psalm 37:4

4 Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your

heart.

Delight – pleasure, happiness, joy, glee, gladness; excitement,

amusement; bliss, rapture, elation, euphoria.

It is that pleasure, happiness, and excitement just to be in the presence

of God; that brings God to us and He delights in being around us.

Everyone loves to be around someone that wants to be around them.

God loves a cheerful giver. Not just a giver of money, but in time spent

with him and doing the work of ministry with joy and out of a pure

heart.

2 Corinthians 9:7 AMPC

7 Let each one [give] as he has made up his own mind and purposed in

his heart, not reluctantly or sorrowfully or under compulsion, for God

loves (He takes pleasure in, prizes above other things, and is unwilling

to abandon or to do without) a cheerful (joyous, “prompt to do it”) giver

[whose heart is in his giving].

God takes pleasure in, prizes above other things, and is unwilling to

abandon or to do without YOU! He looks at your pure heart of love and

is drawn to you and desires to be with you always. Isn’t that great to

know?

Psalm 51:10

10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit

within me.

So, our desire every day is to ask God to create in us a “pure” heart and

renew that right spirit in us to create that pure communication with

Him.

Let’s say every day, “My delight is in you alone God! Not only am I

talking to you today, but I’m listening!”
