Psalm 23 Part 2
Green Pastures and Still Waters
“Where lives change and where life can begin again”
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
Most of us experience the stress and pressures of life each day. Whether we
choose to “receive” them or choose to “fight the good fight of faith”, we will go
through life with challenges and choices.
The love of God is extended to us each day as we sleep and rise to start our
day. He is talking and singing over us. There are new opportunities to dance or
complain. Choose to dance! Have you ever chair danced? That is a good choice
for those of us that don’t hold a beat very well. You can be the best dancer in
the world sitting in your chair, and no one has to know the difference. Sing a
new song and dance as He sings over you.
Psalm 23:3 says, “He makes us to lie down in green pastures…”
When I take God’s hand and release myself to his care and love, I have no
other choice but to lie down. No longer running around trying to figure things
out or trying to make ends meet but resting in His provision. Listening carefully
to His direction.
Green pastures represent the “goodness” of God. It represents all His provision
and care. It represents all the abundance of God poured out on us. We lie
down in his goodness and rest in His care. It is not a suggestion, but rather He
makes us do it. As we hold on to Him, everything within us responds to His
Word and lies down on command, with joy. When we don’t hold on to him, we
struggle and fret and worry and walk the floors trying to figure out how all of
this will work out. But God! He says hold on to me and I will make you lie
down in green pastures, knowing everything is under His control.
“He leads me beside the still waters.”
Still, waters represent the peace of God. Where there is no “destructive wind” to
toss and disrupt the supernatural flow of God.
Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives
do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
John 14:27 (NKJV)
The world has the most amazing way of bringing destruction, fear, and doubt.
But Jesus, the Shepherd of our Souls (1 Peter 2:25), said “Peace I leave with
you, my peace I give to you…” A captain of a ship always knows the direction
to peaceful waters. Our Shepherd will always lead us to safety and peace. So, it
is important to know that Jesus is the one that will lead us to our destiny, with
the utmost peace and joy. He will lead us and guide us to that peaceful place
of rest and reassurance, that God sits on the throne of our lives and He guides
this ship forever if we release the controls to Him. Take a deep breath and
release! Now let Him guide the ship of your life.
If you are struggling with your peace because of challenges in your life,
remember Psalm 23, again.
“He makes you to lie down in green pastures and leads you beside the still
It is up to you to put your feet in the water and partake of the goodness of God
and the rest that He has provided for all of us.
Take some time today and put your feet in the water of His Word and enjoy
what Jesus has provided.
