Deuteronomy 11:19 (NIV)

19 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at

home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when

you get up.

Being a parent is such a huge responsibility. A parent has a covenant, a

blood covenant to teach their children the ways and the truths of God’s

word and who He is. It was commanded by God, that the parents teach

their children that it would be well with them by obeying their parents

when the parents taught them of the Lord. How? by talking about it

when you sit at home, walking along the way, when they go to bed and

when they get up.

Prayer time with our children is vitally important. We are called to have

a covenant with our children, and in this covenant, we teach them how to

have a covenant with God. Communication with God goes both ways and

the sooner that children learn this, the more successful their lives will

be. They do this by learning how powerful God is and that God lives in

each of us, which makes us powerful and strong. This knowledge will

give them the confidence that they need in bad situations when things

look impossible. With this covenant teaching, in the midst of these

challenges, they will already be acquainted with a powerful Father that

lives on the inside of them. We have a covenant with our children to

teach them the ways and the power of God and the power that is within

them.

Psalm 127:3-5(NIV)

3 Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him.

4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth.

5 Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put

to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.

Children are never a mistake! Each person that is born on this earth,

God has known before the foundation of the world. He knew each one

of us in our mother’s womb. Every child that is born with challenges,

both physically, mentally, or of any sort, God has plans for each one.

God takes the foolish things of the world to confound the wise. The

amazing accomplishments in the face of known limitations are

astounding in the hands of our God.

As parents, it is our covenant responsibility to raise our children with

love, strength, determination, and in full knowledge of who they are in

Christ Jesus and in the knowledge of who their heavenly Father is

personally to them. It is our covenant right and responsibility to teach

them.

Psalm 139:13-16 (NIV)

13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my

mother’s womb. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully

made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. 15 My frame was

not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was

woven together in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my

unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book

before one of them came to be.

God has “fearfully and wonderfully” made each one of us in His

likeness. Teach your children about God. Teach your children about

what Jesus has done for them. What is Christmas and why do we

celebrate it? What is Easter (Resurrection Sunday) all about? Tell the

stories and help them make a sound decision when someone tries to

come and challenge their faith. Explain to them about faith and why

that is important to God? Don’t just tell them to go to church but tell

them why it is important to go to church. Church is not just a place

where adults learn, but children learn about themselves and about a

faith-filled Body of Christ that grows and stands together as a mighty

army, learning and fighting together in Christ Jesus!

Psalm 22:6 (NIV)

6 Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are

old, they will not turn from it.

It is important to start children off the way they should go, so that they

can finish strong and be successful in the end. It isn’t how much we

accomplished for the world that God looks at, but how much we

accomplished for the Kingdom of God on this earth.

Children listen intently to the words of their parents. They watch

closely the actions and examples in their lives. Make your time count

well, teaching your children the ways of God, so that they will not turn

from it when they are older. My prayer is that each one of my children

will hear “Well done, my good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of

the Lord!” Be an example and honor the covenant to teach your children

about God and great shall be their peace, but great shall be your peace

as well!
